PRESIDENT Jakaya Kikwete has appointed two new Regional Commissioners (RCs) to take over from two RCs who are vying for parliamentary seats on CCM ticket.
The Directorate of Presidential Communications quoted Chief Secretary Ombeni Sefue mentioning the new RCs as Deputy Water Minister Amos Makalla and Morogoro Urban District Commissioner Jordan Rugimbana for Kilimanjaro and Lindi regions respectively.
In a related development, President Kikwete has transferred Lindi RC, Ms Mwamtumu Mahiza, to Tanga Region to replace Mr Saidi Magalula who has been transferred to Rukwa. Mr Magalula takes over from former RC, Engineer Stella Manyanya, who is contesting for Nyasa West constituency in Ruvuma Region.
Mr Makalla, who is as well outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Mvomero constituency in Morogoro Region, will replace Kilimanjaro RC Leonidas Gama, who is eyeing the Songea Urban seat in the next Parliament.
Mr Rugimbana has been elevated and promoted as Lindi RC to take over the position left by Ms Mahiza.
According to the statement, the appointments became effective since September 12. Mr Makalla had tried to retain the Mvomero seat in the forthcoming general election but he was defeated in the primaries by Mr Sadiq Murad.
